COBE Architects are behind the visionary plan for Design City Kolding.
Design City Kolding will become an attractive and vibrant neighbourhood in the centre of Kolding, southern Denmark. COBE architects are behind the visionary building plan for the new, central neighbourhood in Kolding. “Our plan for Design City Kolding is based on three principles,” says architect Dan Stubbergaard of COBE Architects.
“Firstly, we will create a new, compact and vibrant neighbourhood in the centre of Kolding. Design City Kolding is going to be a modern neighbourhood where there is life all day and all night.”
“Secondly, Design City Kolding will be a meeting point between the town of Kolding, the landscape and the fjord – connecting them together.”
“Finally, sustainability and design have been the third vital principle. Sustainability and design are an integral part of the concept of Design City Kolding,” says Dan Stubbergaard.”
A green and blue city As an example, Dan Stubbergaard mentions that Design City Kolding will be compact and therefore more sustainable, because a compact town is better to utilise areas and buildings and create a better environment for walkers and cyclists. Cars are parked in car parks and parking basements. Another example is the conscious use of green and blue elements in the form of trees, plants and water which each play a role in underlining the sustainability of the neighbourhood.
“It is also important that the town is socially sustainable and that there is life in the town so that one wants to come to Design City Kolding and spend time there. The town is therefore planned with offices, residences, educational facilities retail and the service industry, so that the neighbourhood is vibrant all day, every day,” says Dan Stubbergaard.
